2015 Merlot, Foppiano Vineyard, Russian River Valley
FOPPIANO Vineyard – only a distant cousin of the Foppiano winery in Healdsburg.
This vineyard is perhaps the most northern vineyard in the Russian River Valley and sits on an ancient flood plain where the river meanders south through the northern hills of Healdsburg.
Planted 40 plus years ago on St George rootstock, with an unknown clone, these vines are knarled and knotted. Sitting in a deep loamy sand soil, perhaps 150 feet from the river, these roots are deep and happy. This is a low lying spot and collects the nights cool air, and can be several degrees cooler here than just a few miles away.
The vines are cordon pruned.
Case Count – 630
